Homemade Apple Cider

As the colder weather approaches, there’s nothing more soothing than some homemade apple cider. With the InstantPot, this is such an elegant solution to provide an extra comfort for either yourself or your guests. Throw everything into the pot, set it and forget it. Let me know if you try it! Everyone here absolutely loved it and believe it or not, this whole batch didn’t last more than a day in our home.

Ingredients

Scale

6 apples

2 knobs of fresh ginger

1 star anise

1 tangerine

4 cinnamon sticks

water

Sweetener of your choice. (coconut sugar, maple syrup, vanilla sugar or honey)

Instructions

Wash and rinse the apples in hot water to remove the wax.

Slice the apples into large chunks and throw into the InstantPot.

Add all the rest of the ingredients and top off with water to the water line.

Cook it on High Pressure, for 45 minutes and allow the red pressure valve to release naturally.

Open that baby up and strain all the ingredients but reserve the apples.

Throw the apples into a blender with some of the water from the InstantPot and blend it up.

Strain the apple slush through a sieve back into the InstantPot and you are done!

Sweeten to taste. I added some vanilla sugar and some maple syrup/vanilla extract to taste.

Serve hot. When cool, put into a mason jar in the fridge and drink within the week. This is also a great recipe to make ahead of time and freeze for a future gathering. After cooled, double bag it in a freezer-safe bag. When you are ready to drink it, throw it into a pan with an inch of water on medium heat and bring back up to temperature.

Notes

If you try this, don’t forget to use the hashtag #simplydrerecipes on Instagram! I sure hope you give it a shot. It’s perfect for serving on Thanksgiving with dessert. Top with whipped cream and a dash of cinnamon for a dessert all on its own.
